Rider

In the summer of 1977, I cycled from Boston to Vancouver. This photo captures me carrying my bicycle into the water off Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia. Little did I know then that in 2012 I would be living and working on Vancouver Island at Pearson College carrying with me the same enthusiasm for personal challenge and cycling that I had more than three decades ago. I fell in love with Canada back then and I decided to fall in love all over again by doing another transcontinental journey.

When I am not riding a bike, I work and play in other ways. Much of that working and playing now is in Switzerland where I am serving as Director General of Ecolint. And even more fun comes from being with my family: Leisa, Nico and Sophie.

  1. I was searching for a bike frame that fits me when I came across your page – pretty cool surprise I would have just started my second year when you cycled to AC. Really awesome that you did this!

  2. Hello David! Just finished a quick tour of crosscountrycyclist- very enjoyable blog and wonderful photos! I look forward to spending more time there catching up a bit from the AIS days!… Very nice bikes, the Rivendell and the Zinn— quite the upgrades from the Scattante! Thank you so much for the donation to the gofundme- much appreciated! The last six months have been a bitch but it’ll get better from here, I’m confident. Give my best to Clarice the next time you see her. Best regards, -Pat

  3. Hi David! I finally came across your blog, long after you completed your trip. This is an excellent chronicle of a jaw-dropping and inspiring trek! Beautiful photos and very well-written. Well done! I feel very lucky to know someone like you. -Emmy

  4. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thank

  5. Hi David,
I am a second year student attending Atlantic college. I am from Metchosin British Columbia and I hope your journey across the Atlantic is going well! I hope we can meet when you arrive in Wales!

    All the best!

  7. David, It was so great running into you yesterday in my small hometown of Hardisty, I still cannot believe the irony! I wish you all the best and think your journey is very inspirational, you are spreading the word of UWC one pedal stroke at a time. Cheers!

    • Hi Christy – it was great seeing, within 24 hours, three generations of Drevers. I wish I could have ridden with you Sunday. And I forgot to do the interview with you that I am doing with alumni I meet. Looks like you are in great shape for another triathlon. Keep in touch. David

  8. Hello David from deepest suburban Surrey, this is Carol and Alec. Sitting with Ellie and impressed with your perineal stamina. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of the miles. Bravo. Rah! Rah! Rah!
